During his time on the District bench, Marion founded the first treatment-based drug courts in Louisiana. His movement launched a supervised, intensive treatment concept for nonviolent offenders. His concept became a national model that still works all across America.

In 2019, Marion Edwards became a consensus choice to serve as Councilman for District 1 in Jefferson Parish. One political columnist wrote of Marion Edwards, “What strikes us most about Edwards is that he was drafted out of retirement to run for this council seat. He doesn’t seek to pad his resume; he already ranks among the most respected public servants in Jefferson. He will be a leader, a unifier and a voice for reason on the council.” Marion was all that and more. No stranger to debate, Marion is often the voice of reason on the council who works to bring opposing sides to common ground.

For his district, Councilman Marion Edwards has secured millions of dollars for flood control and coastal restoration. He upgraded beautification, improved quality of life initiatives, ushered in crime-fighting support, and ensured the West Bank its fair share of infrastructure improvements. Marion Edwards has emerged as one of the most poised and principled public servants in our parish , and for that, he deserves our continued support.
